Sale Sharks have confirmed the signing of South African international Jean Luc Du Preez from Super Rugby franchise The Sharks, following speculation earlier this week that both Jean Luc and his twin brother, Daniel du Preez, would make moves to the Premiership on short-term deals.
The Sharks have acquired the 13-times capped Springbok on a three-month deal, covering for injured England flanker Tom Curry. Jean-Luc will link up with his brother Rob this week, who arrived in Manchester earlier this season. Jean-Luc will be available for selection for Sale Sharks ahead of Gallagher Premiership Round 8.
The 23-year-old bruising backrower earned his last international cap against England last summer, a game in which he faced the man he has been signed to cover, Curry.
Commenting on the signing Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said: “Jean-Luc will arrive on Friday and will join the squad in London before the Saracens fixture. He is part of the formidable Sharks back row in South Africa and can play in all back three positions.
"He is 6ft 4” and 18 stone so a powerful athletic lad, and he will fit in well with the culture here at Sale and add to the winning mentality we a creating as we gain momentum this year.”
Jean Luc won the Currie Cup with the Sharks just three weeks ago, having made over 60 appearances for the Durban-based club. Rumours surrounding four-times capped twin brother Daniel suggest the third of the brothers could be on his to Exeter Chiefs. However, a conflicting report from Rugby Pass journalist Alex Shaw suggests Sale could be in possession of all three brothers' signatures.
