Newcastle Falcons confirm their eighth summer signing with Portuguese outside centre Pedro Bettencourt arriving at Kingston Park from Carcassonne.
Having spent two seasons at European powerhouse Top14 side Clermont, the 7s and 15s international has become well known for powerful ball carrying, stout defence and an offloading game to match.
A regular starter for Carcassonne in the ProD2 Bettencourt, 23, adds to the the list of young promising talent signed by Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards, with backrowers Connor Collette (21) and Guy Graham (20), centre Johnny Williams (21) and potentially London Irish backrow Josh Basham (19).
Commenting on his club's latest signing Richards said: “Pedro was initially recommended to us by a well-respected contact of ours on the continent, and on the strength of that endorsement we decided to take a much closer look at him over a period of time,” said the Falcons boss.
“He is a player who ticks all the boxes in terms of what we want from an outside centre, he speaks good English and we think he can make a mark here. He is over here already training with the boys and we look forward to seeing the impact he can make.”
