Bristol Bears have confirmed the signing of former Springbok back Zane Kirchner on a one-month deal from Pro14 side Dragons.
Formerly of Leinster and the Blue Bulls, the 31-times-capped South African will arrive as crucial injury cover for the Tigers, with fullback trio Charles Piutau (shoulder), Mat Prothero (hamstring) and Luke Daniels (knee) all sidelined.
“With three of our first team full-backs recovering from injury, it was important to add a player of Zane’s ability and international experience on a short-term basis as we prepare for the tough challenges ahead,” said head coach Pat Lam. “Zane has played for some of the top clubs in world rugby and will slot in quickly. We’re grateful to Bernard [Jackman] and Dragons for their co-operation in the process.” After losing their second round of Premiership action to reigning champions Saracens last weekend, Bristol will continue their Premiership campaign away to Gloucester on Friday evening.
