Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond has confirmed Marland Yarde's 2018/19 season is over following an injury sustained during the side's 20-7 victory over Newcastle Falcons last weekend.
Yarde was forced from the field in significant discomfort in the 75th minute with a dislocated knee.
Talking about Yarde's injury earlier today, Diamond confirmed the former England winger has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Diamond also spoke of potential rehabilitation plans with the possibility of sending the 26-year-old to America to work with NFL and skiing specialists.
A scan has revealed that Yarde has ruptured the ACL and MCL ligaments of his left knee, dislocating the joint. Diamond remains hopeful that the injury will require a singular bout of surgery once swelling reduces over the next two weeks.
Sale will be thankful that banned winger/fullback Chris Ashton will be permitted a full debut for the Sharks this weekend after serving his seven-week ban, with Ashton's and Yarde's fellow England international wing Denny Solomona also currently out with a leg injury.
Ashton was handed his ban following an illegal tackle on Castre scrum-half Rory Kockott during a pre-season friendly, delaying the start to his Sharks career after arriving from Toulon over the summer.
Diamond's side will host French outfit Perpignan in the Challenge Cup this Friday evening.
