England forwards coach Steve Borthwick has confirmed that Wasps lock Joe Launchbury has been given the all clear to take part in England's game against the Springboks in Bloemfontein this weekend after missing last weekend's 39-42 defeat at Ellis Park.
Reports from within the England camp this morning had suggested Hurricanes backrow Brad Shields was set to make his starting debut for England in the engine room alongside Maro Itoje, but Launchbury's return to fitness will allow Shields to return to competing with former captain Chris Robshaw for the six jersey.
Borthwick commented earlier today: " Joe Launchbury trained today, trained well."
The return to fitness of the Wasps captain will be welcome news for the England set-up, with his vast experience and obvious playing quality sorely missed in Johannesburg last weekend.
Although Borthwick also confirmed that loosehead prop Ellis Genge is an injury concern, having been sent for a leg scan earlier today.
