Gloucester lock Tom Savage has been handed a two-week ban following an incident during Sale Sharks victory at Kingsholm last weekend.
Savage, 29, pleaded guilty to making contact with the head of Sale fly-half Robert du Preez during the second half and will be free to play again on January 15th.
Savage will miss this weekend's Premiership clash with Leicester Tigers at Welford Road as well as a crucial Champions Cup clash with Irish province Munster at home.
Gloucester face the challenge of displacing both Premiership rivals Exeter Chiefs and Top14 Champions Castres Olympique in qualifying for the knock-out stages, currently languishing at the bottom of pool 2 on eight points.
With fixtures against both pool toppers Munster and Castres later this month, they stand the chance, however minimal, of rising to the top of the pool or remaining in fourth position.
